Warhead of the Daleks V

(ROLL OPENING CREDITS)
(WARHEAD OF THE DALEKS)
(PART TWO)

1. INT. WAREHOUSE – LOWER LEVEL (NIGHT)

THE DOCTOR, TEGAN and KAMELION (in his human form) run around a corner. In front of them is a wall, filling the archway and blocking off further escape.

TEGAN
There’s no way out. It’s a dead end!

DOCTOR
It can’t be...

The Doctor steps forward and runs his hands over the wall.

DOCTOR
There should be another six metres of space. And it’s new... But why would the builders wall it up?

TEGAN
Who cares, we’ve got to get out of here!

KAMELION
The Colonel is holding the attackers at bay.

TEGAN
For how long, though?

KAMELION
I do not have that information, Miss Jovanka.

DOCTOR
Of course! This isn’t a real wall – just a partition!

The Doctor moves to the archway and opens a segment of brick to reveal a control.

DOCTOR
Someone wants to keep this area off limits.

KAMELION
Maybe that is wise, Doctor.

TEGAN
He’s right, we don’t know what’s on the other side.

DOCTOR
You’d rather face those killers?

He twists the control. There is a whirring noise and wall slides upwards.

DOCTOR
Quickly, let’s...

He trails off as the wall rises enough to reveal a DALEK standing behind it. There are four or five other Daleks behind it, deactivated and lifeless. More importantly, the Dalek in front is alive and angry. As it spots the trio it begins to scream:

DALEK
EXTERMINATE!

DOCTOR
Take cover!

He, Tegan and Kamelion scramble back as the Dalek glides past the doorway.

DALEK
EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!!!!!

[We see the Dalek’s POV – a red, solarized bulls eye target. We hear a softer version of the Dalek voice whispering in the background.]

DALEK (VO)
ANALYZING COMBAT ZONE. FEEDING DATA TO BATTLE COMPUTER. ALL TARGETS TO BE EXTERMINATED.

The Dalek fires a beam of bright blue light at Tegan. She dives behind a concrete pillar and the blast strikes it. There is a small explosion and shards hurtle away. The Doctor jumps up from behind a crate.

DOCTOR
Behind you!

The Dalek whirls to face the Doctor. It stops, as if shocked. Dalek POV:

DALEK (VO)
SCAN RECOGNIZED BODY-PRINT CHARACTERISTICS OF GALLIFREYAN HUMANOID! CONFIRMATION OF IDENTITY ESSENTIAL! PRIORITY ONE CENTRAL COMMAND...

DOCTOR (DIST)
Tegan! Kamelion! Get inside that chamber! Do it!

Normal view: The Dalek spins its dome as Kamelion tries to do that.

DALEK
EXTERMINATE!

The Dalek fires and Kamelion ducks. The bolt causes another explosion.

2. INT. WAREHOUSE – UPPER LEVEL (NIGHT)

The scene of a pitched battle. The false ‘MELLOR’ strides calmly towards the terrified SERGEANT CALDER who empties his machine gun into ‘Mellor’s’ torso – the bullets have no effect. ‘Mellor’ grins broadly as he looms over Calder, and lazily brings his gun to bear on Calder as the gun finally clicks empty. Calder is perspiring with terror.

Clang! The crowbar the Doctor was using earlier smashes across the back of ‘Mellor’s’ head, sending him reeling. The crowbar is wielded by PROFESSOR LAIRD. She brings it down on Mellor’s back with another metallic strike. Calder rotates his empty gun and swings the butt straight up into ‘Mellor’s’ face.

LAIRD
Get his gun!

Calder rips the weapon from ‘Mellor’ as COLONEL ARCHER, PRIVATE GALLOWAY and the remaining SOLDIER leap on top of ‘Mellor’, forcing him to the ground with sheer weight of numbers. Laird snatches the gun as ‘Mellor’ flings aside Calder and Galloway and tries to rise up, with Archer trying to get him into a headlock.

GALLOWAY
Sir, get down!

Archer loosens his grip and ‘Mellor’ easily shrugs him off... just as Galloway and the other soldier open fire. The combined bullets slam ‘Mellor’ against the grubby window, which then shatters... The soldiers keep firing.

3. INT. WAREHOUSE – LOWER LEVEL (NIGHT)

The Dalek whirls to face the direction of the doorway as the noise is heard. Kamelion sprints for the hidden chamber and the Doctor tries to follow.

4. EXT. WAREHOUSE DISTRICT (NIGHT)

‘Mellor’, surrounded in a haze of shattered glass, tumbles out of the window and plummets down to the floor below. His limp hand bangs against the gravel of the road. Then, a swirling pattern of silver sparkles engulfs the hand just for a moment, long enough for it to become visibly metallic, robotic and familiar. The effect fades – leaving a different, but still human hand. This hand belongs to the POLICEMAN, who is now lying on the ground instead of ‘Mellor’. He rolls onto his back and gets up with ease.

5. INT. WAREHOUSE – LOWER LEVEL (NIGHT)

The Dalek whirls and fires a blast at the Doctor.

DALEK
EXTERMINATE!

The blast causes an explosion. The Doctor half-dives, half-falls into the hidden chamber as the wall slams down closed – not smooth, but heavily as if out of control. Tegan watches from hiding, now trapped on the floor with the Dalek.

6. INT. WAREHOUSE – STORE CHAMBER (NIGHT)

The Doctor bangs his fist against the door angrily. Kamelion stands to one side.

DOCTOR
Tegan!

7. INT. WAREHOUSE – UPPER LEVEL (NIGHT)

The humans are recovering from their ordeal. Galloway approaches the shattered window.

GALLOWAY
Whatever that thing was, it wasn’t Mellor!

CALDER
Yeah, I’d worked that out myself, thanks, Galloway!

ARCHER
Sergeant!

CALDER
Sorry sir. Are you all right?

ARCHER
I’ll recover. Where are the other three?

LAIRD
They ran downstairs.

CALDER
They could be in on it.

LAIRD
I’m no so sure. This is just the sort of thing the real Doctor would get caught up in – and we don’t know that they’re fakes. We only have that thing’s word for it.

GALLOWAY
Professor? That thing...

LAIRD
What about it?

GALLOWAY
It’s gone.

They gather by the window and look down at the street.

8. EXT. WAREHOUSE DISTRICT (NIGHT)

The shattered glass lies in the road. There is no sign of the policeman. Further up the street is the lifeless corpse of the real Mellor, lying in a pool of blood.

9. INT. WAREHOUSE – LOWER LEVEL (NIGHT)

The Dalek glides towards the exit.

DALEK
DALEK STORAGE CHAMBER COMPROMISED. PRIORITY SIGNAL TO CENTRAL COMMAND NET. ACTIVATE THE TIME CORRIDOR. PRIORITY SIGNAL. ALL HUMANOID LIFE FORMS IN THE AREA TO BE EXTERMINATED!

Tegan watches it go.

10. INT. WAREHOUSE – UPPER LEVEL

As before.

CALDER
That’s the real Mellor. Shot in the back.

ARCHER
He might still be alive. Parsons, get down there and check him over, then have a look for the others. First sign of trouble, come straight back.

SOLDIER
Sir.

The soldier turns and heads off.

LAIRD
If that’s the real Mellor, then the thing impersonating him is still at large.

GALLOWAY
And if it can pretend to be Mellor...

They glance at the direction the soldier took.

ARCHER
Yes. We should all stay together from now on.

11. INT. WAREHOUSE ENTRANCE (NIGHT)

The soldier runs down the steps. He comes to a halt at the landing as he can see the Dalek standing on the floor below, looking around. The soldier’s eyes widen and he starts to run back up the steps. The Dalek spins around, training it’s eye stalk on the retreating soldier. We see it’s POV:

DALEK
EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!!

It fires its ray and the beam skewers the soldier, who is bathed in a negative blue aura. The soldier lets out a hideous scream and the glow disperses, leaving his convulsing body to fall heavily, roll down the steps and collapse back on the landing.

DALEK
EXTERMINATE ALL HUMANS! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!!!

12. INT. QUARANTINE CHAMBER (NIGHT)

As before. LYTTON, the SUPREME DALEK and other Daleks are present.

LYTTON
If you continue to interfere I cannot guarantee the success of the strategy!

SUPREME DALEK
YOU WILL OBEY US! YOUR CONDITIONING WILL BE INCREASED IF YOU CONTINUE TO RESIST!

LYTTON
Your conditioning made me loyal to the Dalek’s aims – you are the ones resisting, not me!

A Dalek glides forward and speaks urgently.

DALEK 2
ALERT. THE BATTALION IN THE WAREHOUSE HAS BEEN DISTURBED. THE ACTIVE DALEK IS NOW FOLLOWING THE PROGRAM TO EXTERMINATE ALL WITNESSES.

SUPREME DALEK
THE BATTALION IS UNDER THREAT! ACTIVATE EMERGENCY PROGRAM FOUR ON THE TIME CORRIDOR – RETRIEVE ALL DALEK UNITS AT ONCE!

LYTTON
That will put a radical drain on the energy banks!

SUPREME DALEK
YOU WILL NOT QUESTION YOUR MASTERS! RECOMMENCE THE ATTACK!

LYTTON
It was you who interrupted me!

SUPREME DALEK
OBEY! OBEY!

DALEK 2
OBEY!

SUPREME DALEK
OBEY!

Lytton winces, grimacing, then clutches his head in pain.

LYTTON
I... obey. I obey!

DALEK 2
LEAVE!

Lytton turns, sways, then staggers out, clinging to his skull.

SUPREME DALEK
ACTIVATE THE TIME CORRIDOR. MAXIMUM POWER.

DALEK 2
I OBEY!

It glides to a control panel.

13. INT. RECEPTION AREA (NIGHT)

Lytton emerges from the chamber and the door slides closed. He looks to be in absolute agony. Suddenly, his eyes snap open and his hands fall away. He looks around him, as if in a daze. He smiles a relieved smile and then straightens up.

LYTTON
Much better.

He strides off.

LYTTON
This is Commander Lytton. The attack will now be carried out.

As he leaves the humming noise from the terminal door gets louder.

14. INT. WAREHOUSE – LOWER LEVEL (NIGHT)

Checking that the Dalek is gone, Tegan hurries over to some the equipment the soldiers had. She lifts the hatch to see grenades. She gingerly takes one and heads over to the sealed door.

TEGAN
Doctor? Doctor, can you hear me?

15. INT. WAREHOUSE – STORE CHAMBER (NIGHT)

The Doctor moves over the wall, running his hands over the corners. Kamelion eyes the Daleks with something approaching apprehension.

DOCTOR
The servos have blown! We’re stuck in here!

KAMELION
Doctor...

DOCTOR
Don’t worry about them, they’re harmless. Deactivated. Now come on, Kamelion, change into something that can shift this door.

KAMELION
Unless you can provide a suitable mental image...

There is a sudden, dense humming sound which rapidly expands. Kamelion looks around as if trying to locate the source of the noise. The Doctor groans in pain, clutching his hands.

KAMELION
What’s that noise?!

A ruby red haze slowly envelopes the chamber.

DOCTOR
The time corridor! Tegan! TEGAN! TEGA...

The noise intensifies, blotting out the Doctor’s shouts. The Doctor and Kamelion slow, freeze totally and then disappear as the red glow turns totally opaque.

16. INT. TIME CORRIDOR TERMINAL (NIGHT)

The red glow becomes transparent and rapidly begins to disperse, as with the noise. We see the Doctor, Kamelion and the inert Daleks in the same position as before, but now in the empty white chamber, facing the closed door.

DOCTOR
...AN! TEGAN!

The Doctor sighs.

DOCTOR
Too late. We’re at the other end of the time corridor. The origin point.

KAMELION
A Dalek ship?

DOCTOR
Very probably.

The door slides up, revealing the reception chamber outside.

17. INT. RECEPTION AREA (NIGHT)

The Doctor and Kamelion emerge cautiously and look around.

KAMELION
There are scanning devices throughout this section, Doctor.

DOCTOR
Don’t worry about them, Kamelion. There’s the same interference like at the warehouse. All the cameras in this area must be affected. As long as we keep quiet and don’t move very far, we should be all right.

KAMELION
Won’t there be Daleks on their way here?

DOCTOR
Why? They’re only expecting that deactivated force. Unless they need to reactivate them again, we should be left alone.

KAMELION
You have encountered the Daleks before, Doctor?

Behind them, the door slides down shut. Neither notice.

DOCTOR
Oh yes. We go back a long way, but... well, let’s just say things have changed. History as they say is not what it used to be.

KAMELION
What is our course of action to be?

DOCTOR
Well, I don’t know about you Kamelion but I don’t particularly fancy spending the night on a battle cruiser packed with the most evil race in creation. We’ve got to reverse the time corridor and get back to Earth.

KAMELION
Surely it would be wiser to recall the active Dalek here, then return?

DOCTOR
Either way, we need to get access to the...

The Doctor turns and notices the door is shut. The Doctor rushes to it.

DOCTOR
Locked! I’m a fool!

KAMELION
There is a manual control for the shutter, Doctor.

Kamelion points to a small, raised dome beside the door.

DOCTOR
Recessed buttons... Made for Dalek manipulation, but it’s worth a chance.

The Doctor starts jabbing at the dome. Kamelion starts to wander down the nearest corridor. It is deserted.

18. INT. WAREHOUSE ENTRANCE (NIGHT)

Tegan creeps around the corner, holding the grenade.

19. INT. WAREHOUSE – UPPER LEVEL (NIGHT)

The door to the stairwell bursts open as the Dalek glides forward.

DALEK
ALL HUMANS ARE TO BE EXTERMINATED! EXTERMINATED! EXTERMINATE!

We pull out to see Archer and the others hiding behind pillars. It glides forward.

ARCHER
Now!

Archer, Calder and Galloway emerge from hiding and open fire with their guns. The Dalek pauses, as if surprised, but the bullets do it no harm. Dalek POV:

DALEK (VO)
BATTLE COMPUTER ANALYZING COMBAT ZONE. HIGH PROBABILITY OF DAMAGE UNDER SUSTAINED FIRE.

The soldiers continue to fire the guns to no avail. Dalek POV:

DALEK (VO)
ALL TARGETS VIABLE FOR EXTERMINATION!

Behind it, Tegan runs through the door and pulls the pin from the grenade.

TEGAN
Everyone get down!

The Dalek whirls to face her as she hurls the grendade. Dalek POV:

DALEK (VO)
BATTLE COMPUTER COMPENSATING – NEW STRATEGY IMPLEMENTING...

The image turns to static. Normal view: the explosion rips most of the dome apart. The Dalek begins to sway in circular motions, it voice panicked.

DALEK
I CANNOT SEE! MY VISION IS IMPAIRED! WARNING! WARNING!

LAIRD
Quick, hold it down!

The humans charge the battered Dalek. Archer grabs the flailing sucker arm as the gunstick fires a blast. The loading doors are struck and flung open by the blast. Galloway and Laird throw their weight onto the Dalek.

DALEK
SELF-TERMINATION ENGAGED! ACTIVATING SELF-DESTRUCT!

Tegan and Archer look horrified as they realize what is happening.

20. EXT. DOCKLANDS (NIGHT)

It is early evening. The door to the TARDIS opens and TURLOUGH emerges. He is still slightly rumpled and his tie is crooked. He looks around, scowling in irritation.

TURLOUGH
No sign of them anywhere. And we’re on Earth. Again. What am I doing? This is no way to live... But it’s better than the alternative. Doctor? Tegan?

He moves off towards the warehouse, calling.

21. INT. WAREHOUSE – UPPER LEVEL (NIGHT)

The group heave the Dalek towards the loading dock entrance.

DALEK
EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!

They throw it over the edge.

23. EXT. WAREHOUSE DISTRICT (NIGHT)

Turlough is walking along, frowning as he sees Mellor’s body. He looks up in shock as the Dalek tumbles out of the loading dock and falls into the street below. Before it can strike the road it is ripped apart in a massive explosion. Turlough is thrown back as the explosion clears to show burning remains. On the walkways above stand the Policemen.

to be continued...
